Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean 

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) was founded in 2005, with the aim of promoting cooperation between the countries of the Mediterranean shores, in order to create the best possible political, social, economic and cultural environment for the people of the Mediterranean. The Assembly consists of 29 Member Parliaments and has Observer status in the UN General Assembly. 

The House of Representatives participates in PAM with four MPs. The current composition of Cyprus’ delegation to PAM consists of Mr. Andreas Pasiourtides, head, (AKEL-Left-New Forces), Mrs Rita Superman (Democratic Rally Party-DISY), Mr. Christos Orphanides (Democratic Party-DIKO) and Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou (Cyprus Greens-Citizens’ Cooperation). 

The Cyprus delegation participates in the annual General Assembly of PAM as well as, in the Meetings and Conferences of the three PAM Standing Committees· namely, the Committee on Political and Security-related Cooperation, the Committee on Economic, Social and Environmental Cooperation and the Committee on the Dialogue among Civilisations and Human Rights. The delegation participates also in the Special Parliamentary Committee on Counter Terrorism, which has been established by a decision of the 2019 Plenary. PAM Committees are regularly convened responding to various developments in the area in the fields of its interest and expertise. The contribution of the Cypriot MPs to the work of the Committees, in terms of drafting, amending, approval or rejecting of PAM’s Resolutions and/or Reports, has been continuous and substantial.
