POURGOURIDES Christos

 
LIMASSOL CONSTITUENCY, DEMOCRATIC RALLY PARTY (DISY)

 

Born in Moniatis, Limassol District, on 3 October 1945. Married to Margarita Charalambous; has two daughters and one son. Lawyer.

 

PARLIAMENTARY ACTIVITIES

 

At the parliamentary elections of 19 May 1991 he was elected Member of the House of Representatives standing as a DISY candidate in Limassol and was re-elected at the parliamentary elections of 26 May 1996, 27 May 2001 and 21 May 2006.

He was parliamentary spokesman of DISY and chairman of the House Standing Committee on Development Plans and Public Expenditure Control.

He was also one of the three vice-chairmen of the Executive Committee of the Cyprus Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

He is parliamentary spokesman of the party, a member of the Committee of Selection, of the House Standing Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman), of the Ad Hoc House Committee on Rules of Procedure and a full member of the Special House Committee on Declaration and Examination of Financial Interests.

He is a member of the delegation of the House to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

 

POLITICAL - SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

 

During his studies he was president of the National Union of Cypriot Students in England.

He was district secretary of DISY in Limassol.

He is currently a member of the Political Bureau of DISY.

Publications

He has published numerous articles of a political and scientific nature and has engaged himself in the question of the protection of human rights and political freedoms.
