On 2 June 2011 he was elected President of the House of Representatives for the Tenth Term of Office of the House.

 General Secretary and First Vice-president of SK EDEK.

 Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus during Glafkos Clerides’ presidency (1998-1999).

 President of KS EDEK (2001-2015).

 Member of the National Council, the supreme advisory body to the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem.
