Representative of Nicosia constituency under the banner of AKEL-Left-New Forces 1996-2003 and under the banner of Citizens’ Alliance since June 2016.
 
Was:
- Chairman of the House Standing Committee on the Environment.
- Leader of the delegation of the House to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and vice chairman of the Political Affairs and Security Committee of the organisation.

Is:
- Spokesman of Citizens’ Alliance group in the House.
- Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs.
- Member of the House Standing Committee on Financial and Budgetary Affairs, of the Ad Hoc House Committee on the Review and Update of the Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives and of the Ad Hoc House Committee on the Investigation of Issues Relating to Loans of Politically Exposed Persons.
- Head of the delegation of the House to the Conference of Community and European Affairs Committees of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC).
- Member of the delegation of the House to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), of the delegation of the House to the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and of the delegation of the House to the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union (IPC SECG).

Political career:

- Special Adviser to the President George Vassiliou and General Secretary of New Generation (1988-1993).
- Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism (2003-2006), Minister of Communications and Works (April-May 2004), Government Spokesman (January-June 2006) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2006-2007) of the Republic of Cyprus during Tassos Papadopoulos’ presidency.
- President of the Citizens’ Alliance since 2013.
- Member of the National Council, the supreme advisory board to the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem.
