The Committee examines for the most part, matters within the competence of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance. It examines bills, legislative proposals, regulations and questions relating to social security, the protection of maternity, equal treatment of genders in occupations, public benefits, pensions, providence funds, health and safety at the workplace, the obligations of employers towards employees, social welfare, centres for the well-being of adults, seniors’ residences, working times of commercial stores as well as employment issues for foreign personnel and the safeguard of labour rights in the public and private sector. 

Since 2020, a Subcommittee of the Committee on Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance on the Study of the Demographic Problem has been in operation.
